Hotel Hotel / Canberra

With husband very busy these School holidays, we took the one opportunity we had to drop the kids at the grandparents house and try out Canberra’s tres cool Hotel (so I’ve heard) that is Hotel Hotel

After booking our hotel room I Downloaded their App on iTunes for all the latest info and what’s hot in Canberra! Although you don’t really need to leave the hotel!

A very easy 2 hour drive from the Southern Highlands (3 from Sydney) and we were in our Nations Capital.

We arrived just as it was getting dark, and were amazed with the architecture….particularly the wood panneling and vertical garden facade. Inside a very cool dark and moody foyer with open bar, library, cozy modern fire (screaming happy hour) and a very hip crowd (not to mention a hairdresser and Palace Cinema below).

We checked into our equally cool and cozy room and headed down for dinner at the  quirky Monster Kitchen and Bar.  A few interesting items on the menu but we ordered really well! The Morton bay bugs with miso buttered cabbage and daikon was a total standout!

We had breakky across the road at A.Baker…more exposed concrete walls and cool lighting housing fresh pastries, coffee and yummy regional produce to warm our bellies from the 1 degree freezing morning!

We didn’t have long before we had to hit the road so we headed to Braddon to check out the 2 degree exhibition at the Gorman Arts Centre…quite a cool blow up palm tree but in all honesty not much happening here….so 5 mins away we parked on Londsdale street and enjoyed some cool shopping along here…I loved itrip iskip, The Hive and Timber & Tailor.  We grabbed a takeaway coffee from the small but hip Barrio Collective and that concluded our short but sweet Canberra getaway….next time I think we will take the kids for some touristy adventures!
