Colourful, eclectic and fun! A new modern art portrayal by Bobo Choses. The SS16 collection “Der Blaue Reiter” pays tribute to artists like Picasso, Matisse, Pollock and more. Think gorgeous stripes, delicious peach colours with royal blue fruits, diamonds, abstract colorful prints, cool library bags (to carry your ninja turtles in of course) and all in funky edgy fits that Bobo is famous for! Check out the collection at My Messy Room for sale 9pm tonight! So good!
Only an hour and a half drive from Sydney and first time holidaying in Kiama! I read about this little retro beach house called Beachbumz in a holiday edition of The Good Weekend and decided that was the destination for a mini Summer vacation.
The sea air, Norfolk pines and Greenery immediately had me settling in. We loved our little house…. fresh, white and clean. Timber floorboards, 2 bedrooms (parents and kids room with bunk beds), cozy lounge area and a little outdoor courtyard. A small but well equipped kitchen and a very 50s retro vibe (even a cute caravan parked right out the front). 5 mins from 3 lovely beaches, Kendall’s, Easts and Surf beach where we found ourselves lazing under our umbrella and swimming til it was either coffee or wine O’clock.
We checked out the little and big blowholes which the kids loved, played by the rock pools and really enjoyed the coastal walks. There is a great family feel around Kiama, awesome playgrounds near each beach, lots of kid friendly restaurants and some of the cutest cabins and family camping grounds I have seen…all with amazing beachfront positions.
The cafe scene is pretty vibrant too…my faves for coffee were Penny Whistler – funky neon lighting, open and airy modern fit out and a view right over Kiama Harbour. We had a great lunch here too! Yummy salads, smoothies and kids menu.
Flour Water Salt – lovely black and white bakery (from Sourdough Berry) serving great coffee, fresh bread and pastries + yummy sambos, pies etc!
Just around the corner from us (the quiet end of Manning st) is a little caf called The Brooding Italian – A cool little espresso bar serving great coffee, wraps, fresh juices and yummy lemon tarts.
For dinners out we loved…
Hanoi on Manning – authentic and fresh Vietnamese restaurant. We loved this! Fresh rice paper rolls, pancakes and delicious prawn and Ling curry! We think we might drive from Sydney just for the food!
El Corazon – simple but yummy Mexican opposite the Harbour. Great views, kids menu and cozy booth seating. We shared prawn Fajitas and chicken burritos with a salad and Margaritas of course! Olé.
And we are always on the search for the best ice cream !!! and our pick was Licked! Yum!
For a little shop (not a lot going on), but loved Deer Willow, A gorgeous lifestyle store stocking gorgeous candles, chic homewares and a lovely range of clothing.
Also The Bookshop Kiama had a great range of reads and a lovely atmosphere.
A highlight were the Farmers markets (3-6pm every Wednesday) on the pebbly black beach of the Harbour, A lovely atmosphere of music, farm fresh produce including seafood, beef, honey, eggs, flowers and fun activities for the kids….slip n slide, water guns and jumping castles.
We drove home via the gorgeous town of Berry and shared orange cake, croissants and coffee at the Berry Sourdough bakery…and a wander through the shabby chic and gorgeous little store called The Picnic Shed where I may have purchased a cool Pony Rider cushion. Whish I had more time to look around town but husband and kids weren’t as keen on my shopping venture…until next time!
Loved exploring this scenic seaside town and feeling refreshed to take on 2016.
