Falling for Falls creek

I wouldn’t normally be hoping for a freezing September, however  the icy  snap was perfect for our mini ski holiday at Falls Creek!

We were lucky to be invited to join some of the Spring holiday activities by Renault Australia who have sponsored Falls Creek for years.

Approx a 7 hour drive from Sydney but  we cut that down with a sleepover at my Inlaws place in The Southern Highlands the night before . A quick lunch at Gundegai on the way and then hit Falls Creek around 4pm Thurs afternoon. We arrived to a lovely snowflake fall and the kids were so excited as this was their first snow sighting!

We stayed at a sweet little place called Chorkis. A cozy lodge in the heart of Falls and direct access from the slopes to our front door! A modern huge shared kitchen overlooking the mountains was a nice meeting point for guests and kids as well as a play room and open lounge room. Ours was a 2 bedder and I think the kids holiday was complete with a set of bunk beds!

We woke up to a blanket of snow on Friday! So beautiful out our window! We headed out to The Pass (right near the ski lifts) for coffee and hot chocolates before hiring some gear and exploring the area.

Around the village there are Snow angels, local guides stationed throughout the resort to provide assistance and support the kids ski school.  We also took advantage of the  free shuttle bus which picks up and drops off all around the mountain.

During peak season the Renault Ski show spectacular is on show every sat night showcasing ski stunts, vehicles and a 3d fireworks display!

The Renault Snowclub was also a huge hit for both mum and kids!  Teaching kids basic ski skills with fun games, food and a visit from Pete the snow Dragon!  As a bonus, mums ski free when kids are enrolled and can also take advantage of a complimentary  coffee in the Mums coffee club! Yep! That will do me!

We cooked dinner at home a few nights and enjoyed eating at these places too..

The Pass- great little hole in the wall located at the Falls Chairlift, serving yummy coffee, pastries, pies etc.. Great for the skiers on the go.

Elk – cozy and rustic with a 360• fireplace for kids to toast marshmallows after dinner. We enjoyed a steak and prawn linguini and simple kids menu for the critters.

Milch– located on the upper tiers of the village and a real locals hub. Kingston and I took the shuttle bus here for a fresh juice and muffin, also great dinner atmosphere + good wine list and meze plates.

Snonuts – iced and cinnamon doughnut institution for the kids (and adults) also serves up spuds, crepes and other yummy treats!

I would have loved to get a bit more skiing in but was tricky with a 2 year old so husband and I swapped duties with him, until we realized there was a crèche at the bottom of the mountain! Woohoo!

Such a great last minute holiday! It is a bit of an effort getting all kids rugged up and carrying their skis etc but once you hit the mountain, it’s all worth it! And so is the butterscotch Schnapps at the end of he day!

Thanks to Renault and Falls creek for making it happen! X b
