Balmoral + Babes

Balmoral was where it was all at today! Every year there is a challenge called the Balmoral Burn…up Awaba st, the toughest 450m uphill race in Australia!  This race raises funds for the Humpty Dumpty charity, to enable the hospitals to purchase much needed medical equipment etc!

After joining in the festivities   (jumping castles, face painting, gourmet stalls etc) we decided to walk by the water to our fave venue the Boatshed. So much goodness here! True to it’s name! Literally an old Boatshed revamped right on the water! The Boatshed is jam packed with amazing colour and atmosphere! Beautiful florals, enormous fruit bowls stacked to the brim,  striped walls, beautiful lighting, colours and most importantly food and coffee!! Occasionally the line inside is quite long to sit so we like to grab a coffee and fruit or avo, tomato and goats cheese on sourdough at the outside stall and sit by the park/ water with the kids.

Many hours spent on the swings and slide and then sandcastles and digging on the beach.  With the kids playing and adults enjoying great coffee and produce, this makes for a great Sunday out!

Other top dining choices…

Awaba cafe – all white modern fitout with a great lunch menu, coffee and amazing cheesecake! (Last image).

Bathers pavilion a little further down (no. 4 The Esplanade) on the beach side. A little more formal but right on the water and a great brunch spot. Amazing eggs Benedict and kids menu too.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend x b

Stylin in Summer Hill

I love the village life going on in Summer Hill, particularly Smith Street, where all the action is! Once or twice a week I find myself grabbing a coffee at The Drug Store (local fave + great coffee) and heading across the road to My Messy Room for the best in kids clothes, accessories, prints and room decor! There is a little play pen here for the little ones whilst you have a shop and chat to the lovely owner Stav.  We usually then head to the park just behind the village grocer with a great play area.

Here are a few more faves in The Hill!

Envy is a good one for lunch…yummy food and great outdoor courtyard!

Summer Hill Sweets! A lovely vintage lolly shop stacked with old school baked goods, think shortbreads, fudge, rock candy and lots of yummy treats!

Monkey Puzzle toy shop – amazing variety of all things Toys! vintage, new, wooden, soft, create, play and everything in between.

Another one for the kids, especially parties is Colour me mine – a paint it yourself ceramic studio just opposite Summer Hill station.

Heritage coffee brewers – only a few months old and again across from the station…serious coffee, amazing toast toppings and a clean modern fitout.

One penny red – I have not tried this one yet but is next on my list! I have heard great things though! Using fresh seasonal produce and the choice of relaxed upstairs dining or a bit more fine dining downstairs. I hear the cocktails are pretty awesome too!!! Let me know if you have dined here.

So I may have missed some things as I am still a bit of a freshy in the area so please let me know your faves x b

P.s thanks Stav and Renata for your tips x

Manly with the Minis

We love our little getaways to the Northside to visit family and check out what’s new in Manly! We always stay at The Quest Manly, idyllic location in the heart of Manly, opposite the Ferry wharf  and diagonally opposite the Corso (where all the action is) and direct path to the beach!! Also with a fresh new look it has a great holiday feel (pics 13 & 14).

Crinitis restaurant (below the Quest) is a great one for the kids! Loud, vibrant and Pizzas longer than the table!! Really delicious food and the dads were pretty happy with their 1litre beers! The icecream selection is also a head turner for the little ones….And big ones!!

When the littlest wakes in the morning, whoever is up escapes so the others can sleep and does a coffee and juice run.  I found Pressed Juices this time who joined the Corso in October last year and serve up the best quality and delicious fresh juices! A walk around to Shelley beach and then take away coffee from my personal faves Manly Wine (last picture above) or back towards the Corso…Market Lane or showbox coffee and grab some bread and pastries at Infinity Sourdough!

This visit was for our Niece Sundays third birthday..a gorgeous Prince and Knight party at a little Scout hall in Balgowlah.  A real life princess, yummy treats and lots of little people made for a fun morning with family.

I’m sure we will be back in Manly soon but here are a few little juice, coffee and lunch finds…because, well that’s all that matters right??!!! X b

Beebees Mother’s Day

I hope all those hard working Mums out there were spoilt rotten on Mothers Day!!  The most demanding, hard working, non paying and fabulous job in the world!

We were spoilt with a Sunday Brunch at my sisters house! Fig and raisin toast, fruit salad, butter lemon cake, quiche, yummy freshly squeezed juices and bottomless tea!

The cousins all played together whilst the adults relaxed and enjoyed the cute handmade cards and crafts.

I was lucky enough to receive homemade chilli oil and rhubarb jam from Noa’s school garden! Plus flowers and a country road jumper…well I bought it myself!

Sage turned on the charm for some cute snaps in her PopUp shop penguin dress and Rock your baby beanie! And Noa in Mini Willa sweater and bandit kids pants.

We ended the day with an early Thai dinner and ice cream out! No cooking for mumsy today!!
